Self-ransom payments are non-refundable
The LessLLM app is free. You only ever pay if you set up a self-ransom block and then choose to end it early — and that payment is final and non-refundable. That's not fine print; it's the whole mechanism. It is the “AF” in Serious AF Self-Ransom: a penalty only changes your behavior if you genuinely can't claw it back in a weak moment.
Where the money goes
It keeps LessLLM running — the servers and upkeep behind the app — and whatever is left over is a small donation to the person who made it. It is not a savings deposit, not escrow, and not money held on your behalf. You are not paying yourself, and you are not getting it back.
Why it goes to a stranger
Negative reinforcement only works if the money is genuinely gone. Pay yourself and there's no teeth. Pay a friend and they'll hand it back the moment you ask. Even a charity is too comfortable — you'd feel good about it, which is the opposite of the point. What you need is a neutral third party who appreciates it, doesn't need it, and won't refund you in a pinch. That's the role LessLLM plays.
You choose the amount in advance
You pick the amount yourself — $1, $5,
$25, or $100 — before you lock the block. Paying it
later is the price you already chose, in advance, to break your own rule early. By
completing the payment you agree that it is final and non-refundable.
The only exception: billing errors
The single exception is a genuine billing error, such as a duplicate charge. If that happens, email support@lessllm.com and we’ll resolve it through Stripe.
How payments are processed
Payments are processed by Stripe. LessLLM never sees your card details.
